Secret Beach: A peaceful heaven

Secret Beach, located on Koh Phangan’s western coast, is an ideal destination for those seeking peace and quiet. Also known as Haad Son, this small beach remains a favorite among those looking to escape the crowds of the island’s busier shores. Despite its name, Secret Beach is no longer much of a secret, but it still retains its charm with soft sand, turquoise waters, and a calm vibe.

The beach is framed by tropical greenery and offers picturesque views, particularly during sunset. Koh Raham, a well-known beach bar and restaurant located on the northern edge of Haad Son, is worth a visit for its stunning views, particularly in the late afternoon.

Getting to Secret Beach and what to expect

Reaching Secret Beach is relatively straightforward, with easy access by road. However, parking can be tricky as spaces are limited, especially if you’re driving a car. Most visitors park on the road and make their way down to the beach. The bay itself is about 200 meters long, offering plenty of room for lounging, though natural shade is somewhat limited, so bringing sun protection is a good idea.

While Secret Beach is calm and perfect for relaxing, it’s not the best beach for swimming due to its shallow waters and rocky seabed. Many visitors prefer to sit in the water rather than swim. If you’re interested in snorkeling, there’s a reef a short swim from the shore, and snorkel gear can be rented at Koh Raham.

Practical Tips

  • Snorkeling: Secret Beach offers good snorkeling near the cliffs by Koh Raham. Bring your own snorkel gear or rent some from the beach bar for a small fee.
  • Rocky Waters: Be careful when entering the water, as there are quite a few rocks that can make swimming tricky. It’s better suited for wading and relaxing in the shallows.
  • Sun Protection: There are limited areas of shade on the beach, so bring sunscreen, a hat, or even a beach umbrella.
  • Nearby Attractions: After a day at the beach, head to Koh Raham for a drink or dinner with unbeatable sunset views. The bar’s swings and hammocks make it a perfect spot to unwind.
